Mrs. Tammy Lanier came to speak to the Kiwanis Club about the Metter Elementary School′s Math Fest.   Each morning grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade have "morning math" where students try to complete math problems.  The first student to correctly complete the problem receives a pencil.  After 5 pencils are won by a particular student, that student can trade them in for a larger prize.  Mrs. Lanier is using morning math to prepare students for Math Fest which is the largest math extravaganza on Earth and is to be held March 3rd, 2006 in Atlanta at College Park.  10,000 students from Kindergarten to 6th grade will attend.  In January, there will be a local version of Math Fest.  Each class will have a math bee to qualify for the local Math Fest.  20 winners (5 from grades K-3rd) from Metter Elementary School will go to Atlanta to compete in Math Fest.  Tammy (r) is shown with Kiwanian Marcille Bird.
