Mrs. Tammy Lanier came to speak to the Kiwanis Club about the Metter Elementary School′s Math Fest.   Each morning grades Kindergarten through 3^rd grade have "morning math" where students try to complete math problems.  The first student to correctly complete the problem receives a pencil.  After 5 pencils are won by a particular student, that student can trade them in for a larger prize.  Mrs. Lanier is using morning math to prepare students for Math Fest which is the largest math extravaganza on Earth and is to be held March 3^rd, 2006 in Atlanta at College Park.  10,000 students from Kindergarten to 6^th grade will attend.  In January, there will be a local version of Math Fest.  Each class will have a math bee to qualify for the local Math Fest.  20 winners (5 from grades K-3^rd) from Metter Elementary School will go to Atlanta to compete in Math Fest.  Tammy (r) is shown with Kiwanian Marcille Bird.
