Craig Lanier of Grower′s Gin & Warehouse came to speak to the club about agriculture and how it affects the local and state economy. The state of Georgia as well as Candler County had a record year for cotton production. Cotton has become one of the leading cash crops in the state since the boll weevil was effectively eradicated in the ′90s. Mr. Lanier also spoke briefly about future trends in agriculture. Farmers will play a major role as producers as the search for alternate fuel sources such as ethanol and bio-diesel gain momentum. Craig Lanier (left) is pictured with Kiwanian Greg Ponder.
