Georgia Senator Jack Hill from the 4th District that includes Candler County
was the guest speaker at the Metter Kiwanis Club. Senator Hill serves as the
chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He spoke to the group about the
state budget which is in much better shape than was two years ago. The FY2006
budget was estimated to be 5.6% or $883 million in revenue growth over FY2005.
Revenues outpaced the estimate, growing by 9.3% or $1.4 billion for the year.
There will be a General Reserve Fund of $665 million after the mid-year
education adjustment of $173 million. Senator Hill also mentioned a few issues
Georgians will be voting on in November including a quarter percent break on
