Today we had Mrs. Kathy Martin, Director of the Candler County Department of Family & Children’s Services (DFACS). She spoke to the club members about welfare reform. The number of cases of Temporary Assistance For Needy Families (TAFNF) which is for emergency and temporary aid for families with children has dropped 62% since 1997. Yearly expenses from the local DFACS office are $800thousand. There is a direct impact on the economy of Candler County of $21.7million per year from the DFACS office in Metter.

The Kiwanis Club recognized two past Presidents for their dedicated service to the Metter Kiwanis Club. Marcille Bird served as President from 2001-2003. Larry Hadden served as President of the club from 2003-2005. Larry and Marcille are pictured with Candler County DFACS Director Kathy Martin.
