Candler County Administrator Milton Futch visited the Kiwanis Club to speak
about a number of issues and projects that the county and board of commissioners
are currently working on. A major issue is the land fill. The county is working
to extend the life cycle of the landfill itself. As of now it will cost the
county $3million to close the landfill and there is 20.3 years of life left
before that will have to be done. The county has contemplated using transfer
stations similar to the ones in Bulloch County in order to ship waste out of the
county so the life of the landfill could be extended. Another pressing issue the
commissioners are currently is courthouse security. Security at the courthouse
will have to be upgraded and the courthouse is due for several structural
repairs. Mr. Futch is shown with Kiwanis 1st Vice President, Dustin Durden
