Selecting the "Citizen of the Year"
Spiritual
The "Citizen of the Year" should be a leader
in Church affairs and by example, influence to live by higher moral and ethical
standards.
Specific Examples: Church and Sunday School work and an active supporter of other spiritual and religious organizations and movements.
Charitable
The "Citizen of the Year" should participate
generously with his/her time and money in charitable organizations and
movements.
Specific Examples: Bloodmobile, hospitals, or institutional work, heading fund drives for charitable purposes, etc.
Cultural and Educational
The "Citizen of the Year" should
ardently support cultural and educational programs.
Specific Examples: Public Library, PTA, school board, school activities, city beautification, historical society, etc.
Civic Affairs
The "Citizen of the Year" should be a
recognized leader in organizations aimed at creating a better Metter.
Specific Examples: Civic clubs, fraternal organizations, athletic association, recreation board, scouting, veteran service clubs, etc.
Public Affairs
The "Citizen of the Year" should work
unselfishly and continuously for good government.
Specific Examples: Elective and appointive offices, city planning, etc.
Economic Affairs
The "Citizen of the Year" should
cooperate unselfishly on projects designed to improve industrial and business
conditions.
Specific Examples: Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Development Authority, Industry Commitments, Christmas Parade, 4-H Club, Future Home-makers.
General
In summation, the "Citizen of the Year"
should be a person of noble character, with high ideals and principles, who has
contributed his/her God-given talents, time and possessions to improving Metter
and Candler County, and who has been motivated by the unselfish desire to serve
his/her fellow citizens.
